Once, Author X wrote fabulous books. Then, she had a bestselling book, which sent her career to new heights. Then, it happened. She started putting out what seems like ten new books a year, each for a different series, each book coming out a month or two after the last. You noticed that the quality of these books started to plummet even as the length became shorter. Story progression began to slow down until the last few books didn't have much to actually progress the plot. Action scenes became increasingly replaced by scenes of many secondary characters worshiping the main couple and/or silly sex scenes.
Has this happened to you? Come on, I'm sure you have. Let's commiserate.
My nomination:
Richelle Mead. I love this author's earlier books, but the latest books in her series start to have the one same very immature, self-absorbed, whiny and unlikable heroine, Rosegeorginaeugenie Sue, spending the whole book whining, acting stupid and going back and forth between two guys. This is heartbreaking for me because I started out loving all three characters in each of her series, but now I can barely stand any of them. Plus, they always choose the wrong guy - especially Eugenie OH MY FREAKING GOD. I can't believe the guy she picked in the newest book or the fact that she went ahead and did THAT with him. GOD.
This author is talented but I'm starting to wonder whether writing for three series is stretching her too thin.
So, aside from Laurell K Hamilton (too easy!), what's your nomination for the Author(s) Stretched Thin And Started To Suck award?
